David Lynch Week: Blue Velvet. Dennis Hopper At His Creepiest
7 Jul, 2008 in Coolest Shit Ever, david lynch week, fnordThis is a scene from David Lynch’s Blue Velvet. I love it for its creepiness, it’s raw intensity, and for Isabella Rosellini. Yum Yum

This movie *was* creepy… I didn’t make it all the way through when I watched it… but then again, at that time, I did really understand why it made me feel *that* way… now I do…. but it’s still creepy…
Yeah. It’s creepy for sure. Dysfunctional at least. I found it revelatory in a “You mean you can hit ‘em?” way. The fact that Isabella dug the abuse. That she was a masochist, in this sense… it turned me on. As I grew up, matured, and lived a little, I realized that I dug the D/s dynamic, not the psychotic infantile orally fixated pathos. Thank God I figured that out!
TRIVIA TIDBIT:
Lynch’s films are immensely popular overseas, especially in France and Japan. It’s not an accident that the financing for Lost Highway is French. It’s because of foreign sales that no Lynch movie has ever lost money (although I imagine Dune came close).
