Why “CHRSTOU” — the word is “CHRESTOU”? The Greek ‘eta’ (η) is there, between the ‘rho’ (p) and ‘sigma’ (ς). The spelling is very clearly x-p-η-ς-τ-ο-γ — ch-r-e-s-t-o-u

Why? That’s da politics baby, da politics. They have been covering up Chrestou for a long time, why stop now. They know most people can’t read Greek and will believe whatever they are told.
It’s all there if you look close enough. There are enough cracks in the backdrop to see through. Christ the Magician… Early Christianity was plural, Christianities… lots of them. Gnosis lost out to Empire, and the Empire never ended.
fake
probably
the inscription is to clean and clear in relation to the exterior of the cup to be original. any fool could see that ! try another trick but in the end cups dont prove Christ is or isn’t but him, living in my heart and soul does. one minute after you are dead you will know your error.
Ahh, the aloof judgement of the humble christian. Let me guess, the Bible is the word of god, because the bible says it’s the word of god. Excellent.
Just trying to be objective here; there is no tag as to where this came from, or if there is any proof it wasn’t made by me in my 9th grade ceramics class. What you say is true about the Gnostics but it also doesn’t prove “truth” was in their beliefs. All this shows (if it is truly an artifact) is that someone wrote something on a mug that you would chose to believe is a fact. Frankly it proves nothing at all about who Christ was, it is just a statement on a mug.
Photoshopped, you can tell by the pixels, that long ago the resolution must have been way lower.
The object is a genuine artefact found underwater off the coast of Alexandria by French archaeologists. Whether it refers to the same “christ” as in the new testament or not is debatable. If you click on the picture it will take you to a more informative site.
I think you’re right, actually. Back then, all they had was … what?.. and Amiga, maybe. At best.
An interesting thing about this is, aside from the fact that a post from 2008 has garnered so much attention, that I can’t find any news articles, or follow ups about this.
There seems to have been no “ah HA!” debunking of it re: the inscription, like we saw w/ the James brother of Jesus ossuary. I think it’s a neat artifact. More than that we cannot say.
