Youdopia, I’m continuing my series of Led Zeppelin live cover songs. This is James Brown’s Sex Machine, recorded in Los Angeles on 3/25/75. The LA gigs were always magic, even in 1977, when Zeppelin was much more pomp than circumstance (in my opinion). In 1975, their LA shows were amazing.

Led Zeppelin’s version of Sex Machine is performed in the middle of Whole Lotta Love, in the funky section where they would often play the Crunge. This recording is a bit weak, from the encoding to Flash, but the playing of Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, and John Bonham is tight as hell, and funk is hard. The BOOM of Zeppelin is a bit diminished in the recording, because if one were there in person, it would be heavy. This is indeed the coolest shit ever.

I hope you like this as much as I do. Music is magic, after all. This is for August.
