A Little Bit Of Syd

Hello, Youdopia. I’m broadcasting from a new HQ. I wanted to share this Syd Barrett gem with you. Some of you (the Gus) know this as one of the “canonical” Syd tunes, but I am a mere amateur in the world of Syd. His music is haunting at times.

For those of you who know not he, Syd was the original muse and leader of Pink Floyd. He went cuckoo and became the inspiration for … well, all the awesome Pink Floyd songs and albums that most people love. Dark Side of the Moon? The lunatic in the hall = Syd. Wish You Were Here? All about Syd. The Wall? The main  character and the whole kablooie of the album and the movie is based (mainly) on Syd. You can hear where Roger Waters got his vocal influence, in the refrain, “Wouldn’t you miss me? Would you miss me at all?” … the almost out of tune wail.

Only now, in my 40′s am I developing an appreciation for this shattered genius. He’s the Coolest Shit Ever.

  1. Better now than never, the Mark. Stained, glaucous, glycerine, gold, goat, clover? Carpet, distant, pigmy, hid, pack! Timber, pudding, straw.
