He said I sold my blood for money
There wasn’t any pain
But I just can’t stand the feeling
It’s in someone else’s veins
Youdopia, sometimes fame is a demon. If Joan Osborne hadn’t had a huge hit with “What if God Was One of Us?” I think she would be a thousand times more famous than she is now. Her body of work is stunning. Her voice is amazing, and the spectrum of her styles and moods is as wide as a technicolor rainbow. Pensacola is one of my favorite songs ever, both for the music, and the lyrics. Take a listen, or the wolves will get you.

I immediately hated Joan Osborn because I REALLY hate that song… I will have to take a listen when I am not at work…
…and I immediately took a liking to this song the first time I heard it on the radio! I can’t say I feel the same way about the other (few) songs of hers that I’ve heard. Yeah, she can sing, and with a fearless grit that is risky these days in commercial radio. And while the “What if God…” song was quite lame, I also wonder how her stint with The Dead a few years back affected her career?
As I get older I have come to certain conclusions about music. If you stick to your emotions you will gather a tribe of like thinking individuals. Any other purpose is irrelevant. What gain would Joan Osborn receive by being more “Famous”? I take it to be none. The fact that she has successfully maintained a career as a professional musician is enough, no? I myself would be very proud to attach “Professional Musician” to my tax return. I think many others would too. ***GRINS***
I would like to add many thanks to Youdopia for digging up some really cool content. My thoughts are with you… Hey not that close though, Man!!!
I think she had a bad rap, b/c of the one hit wonder status of What If God Was One Of Us. It was an albatross. I have only two of her albums, Relish and Righteous Love, but I’ve heard live stuff of hers that’s amazing, including a song she sang w/ Pavarotti (youtube it peeps).
She has a great legacy and a great career, and I’m glad I discovered her.
