Coolest Shit Ever: Rolling Stones Exile On Main Street Documentary And Remastered Set With 10 Bonus Tracks!

in Coolest Shit Ever, fnord, music

This is big news, Youdopia. As you may know, Exile On Main Street is one of the greatest rock and roll albums ever. It is the shimmering high point of the Stones’ golden age of 1968-1973 (also known as the Mick Taylor era). Exile on Main Street is being re-released, with 10 bonus tracks never before heard (outside the bootleg community).  They even brought back Mick Taylor to finish up some of the tracks. That is the Coolest Shit Ever, already. Read about it.

What is even bigger news, to me, is that Eagle Rock is releasing a full length documentary about the making of Exile on Main Street, called Stones In Exile. A truncated version appears on the super deluxe version of the Exile On Main Street remaster, but this one is a longer version. The same company is also releasing the first ever DVD/Blue Ray edition of Ladies and Gentlemen, The Rolling Stones. That’s a concert movie from 1972′s Exile on Main Street tour. It’s awesome, and I’ve only ever seen it in bootleg form. Now the Stones have been around almost 50 years now (yikes) and we’re all a little done with them, but… this is their high water mark, and it was very high indeed. I have listened to Exile, on average, twice a month, for the last twenty years, and I’ll tell you that Rocks Off gets me going every single time. It’s great rock and roll, brimming with life, drugs, genius, horns, and balls. I can’t wait to see the movie. I love great music.

  1. Dear Glass of beer named Jugdesh,
This is awesome. That is the best Stones album ever. However “Sticky Fingers” and “Beggars Banquet” were awesome too. “Gimme Shelter” is a good one. Please, for too not mention “Steel Wheels”…. IT FOR BE TEH YUCKY PUMPKIN GUTS> That said, I cannot wait to buy this remaster. Youdopia for the win again!

Sticky Fingers has a better good song: bad song ratio for sure. But Exile has teh dirty dirty rock and roll. It was recorded in Keef’s basement.

I don’t like Beggar’s as much. It is the beginning of the good times. Steel Wheels for to be the yuck, yes. Some Girls is a great NYC cocaine disco fabulous album, but thThe Stones really soared in 72 – 73. There is a live concert from Brussel’s from 1973, that is professionally recorded (for radio) that is beyond awesome. If you want it, let me know.

I am only a glass of beer (absinthe) because Gravatar has me in a loop of ” you have an account. Log in to it to change your avatar” and ” You don’t have an account with us. ” So I said fuck it. I’m a glass of absinthe.

  3. “It is the shimmering high point of the Stones’ golden age of 1968-1973 (also known as the Mick Taylor era)” – Couldn’t agree more.

“Now the Stones have been around almost 50 years now (yikes) and we’re all a little done with them” – What a cuntish thing to say. Could never be sick of them.

cuntish? I don’t think so. I love the Stones, but numbers and content don’t lie. They’re a legend and will always draw crowds, but they’re albums with new content just haven’t sold in the same league with their older catalog. I’m not pissing on the Stones, I’m simply saying that they have had their day in the sun, and there has to be at least a 10:1 ratio of people who want Jumping Jack Flash more than Love Is Strong.

    Hmmm… maybe I was a little cuntish. I can recant the cunt, can’t I? ;-)
