No Wonder I Can’t Play This Song – Hots On For Nowhere
25 Jul, 2010 in fnord, Jimmy Page, Led Zeppelin, musicThis video impresses me, Youdopia. It is of a man playing the song, Hots On For Nowhere, by Led Zeppelin. I love that song. It’s found on the album, Presence. Presence has always been considered a “guitar” album, and I never really got it. Aren’t all Zeppelin albums guitar albums? Jimmy Page (pbuh) was the shit on those albums, thus all Jimmy Page albums are guitar albums, right? Yes, and no.
Presence is different. It was recorded, and completely mixed, in fifteen days. Zipadeedooda. Start to finish. There are no acoustic tracks. It’s all rock. Anyway, long story short, it’s been considered a guitar album… Jimmy’s album. I always considered it Bonzo’s album, because the drums are so fucking amazingly recorded, but whatever. Watching this video of a faceless dude playing Hots On For Nowhere, I understand why it’s a guitar album. This shit’s crazy! Yes, Achilles Last Stand is amazing, and I almost always have Nobody’s Fault But Mine playing on my internal ipod, but damn. This happy little ditty, with an amazing groove, is fucking HARD TO PLAY. I can play, or used to be able to, every track off of Led Zeppelin I. It’s not that hard. This song is complex. Watch the fingers. The music sounds like a happy kind of Little Feat bounce. Wowza.
I now understand why this wasn’t played live until Jimmy Page toured with the Black Crowes (you forgot about that, didn’t you?) back in 2000. You need two other guitars behind you to pull this off live. Damn. Watch it and see. This music is amazing.
