Amazing 3D Tour Of Ancient Rome Circa 320 CE. It’s The Coolest Shit Ever.
28 Jul, 2010 in Coolest Shit Ever, fnordAncient Rome was one of the most amazing cities ever, Youdopia. The University of Virginia has worked for years to create this 3D computer model of the city, circa 320 CE (that’s A.D. to you Abrahamics) and it’s amazing. There is a high res version available, but this works just fine for me. I wish somebody would do this for Constantinople. Hats off to Bernard Frischer who designed this masterpiece. This is even cooler than the 3D mapping of Rome’s catacombs, that I wrote about before.
It’s the Coolest Shit Ever. Remember the words of Philip K Dick, “The Empire Never Ended”
Unfortunately, either Vimeo or Bernard Frischer doesn’t allow me to embed the video, so you’ll have to click the image below to see it. Don’t worry. It’s worth the non effort.
This video clip presents a sample exploration of ancient Rome using the Rome Reborn 3D digital model. The tour begins over the Tiber River near the Circus Flaminius and Tiber Island. It continues past the Circus Maximus, Septizodium, Arch of Constantine, Meta Sudans, Colossus of the Sun, Flavian Amphitheater, Temple of Venus and Rome, and ends in the Roman Forum. The video illustrates the latest version of the model (2.1), which was created from January to May, 2010. It is available in higher resolution; for copies, please write to bernard.d.frischer@gmail.com
