World War 2 Photos Merged With Current Photos Of The Same Location. Very Moving.

Sergey Larenkov is a Russian photographer who has taken photographs of Berlin, Prague, and Vienna, from the end of World War Two, and blended them seamlessly with pictures of the same places today. They’re brilliant, Youdopia.

Artistically, it’s a brilliant idea, and it turns out that the effects are a bit haunting. I see in them a reminder of the impermanence that is the nature of being, as well as an exemplar of the axiom, This too shall pass. There are dozens of images on Larenkov’s Live Journal page. Take a look. I hope you find them as neat as I do. They’re the Coolest Shit Ever, if only for the power of the images, and juxtaposition of war and peace. Since we’re seemingly careening toward World War Three, they have an extra oomph to me. Thanks to Laughing Squid for turning me on to this.

These are great! It is very haunting, but at the same point, delightful that those children running down the steps haven’t ever had to learn how to duck and cover the same way.

    Here’s to peace…
