I love this, youdopia. This concept is forehead-slappingly obvious, that I feel a fool for not thinking of it myself. I Can’t Find My Phone is totally explained in the graphic above. You put in your number and the site calls your phone, so you can find out under which couch cushion it is lodged.

Dave Dawson, Graphic Designer (sounds like a superhero) created this gorgeous graphic, and the super simple, one purpose site. You can make a donation if you want, but the service is free, easy, and brilliant. It’s the coolest idea ever.

Last night (6/29/10) Los Lobos and Los Lonely Boys played a gig at the Taste of Chicago. At the end of Los Lobos’ set, Robert Plant came up and sang “Treat Her Right”. It was cool, spontaneous, and the Coolest Shit Ever.

This video has the whole performance, but I wanted to include the shorter, incomplete clip (bottom) because of the commentary of the guy shooting the video. He’s on the phone with someone, and obviously just blown away. Makes me smile that music can make people giddy. It’s a good thing. By the way, this happened on the 30th anniversary of this Led Zeppelin show.

Howdy, Youdopia. I actually got this image, and idea for a post, from Kevin Smith’s twitter. He tweeted about it and a snatched it for use here, with those I love. Since I am a stickler for honesty, I googled about it, and came up with an alternative etymology for the phrase. It is as follows:

For how the idiom is used, I would have assumed the smoke was referring to magician’s smoke used for obfuscation (as in “it’s all done with smoke and mirrors”) and “up my ass” was added just for cursing effect. Because every time I’ve heard it used, its basic meaning is lying to suggest a positive effect when the actual effect is likely to be negative (not to falsely compliment).

The story behind it sounds to me a little too pat (like “raining cats and dogs” having anything to do with animals living in the thatched roof, or “sleep tight” having anything to do with bed construction) to be true, especially when there are more logical amorphic possibilities.  – From an obvious hipster on the Snopes Forums.

It’s been awhile since I’ve done an obscure Led Zeppelin number. This one is a beaut. It’s from the final night of the legendary run at the LA Forum in 1977. I do not like the ’77 tour, but I like the acoustic set from this tour, and I love this little blues ditty they run through, before starting Black Country Woman.

Youdopia, I always try to give you something interesting, and I hope you like this. Coolest Shit Ever? Yes, I think so.  This show was taped by Mike “The Mic” Millard, a taper who would go to shows in a tricked out wheelchair (handicapped peeps got rolled up to the front row) with nakamichi under the seat and fantastic mics.  His recordings are among the best audience recordings ever.

Another reason why I love this song, is that Jimmy Page plays it in the new movie It Might Get Loud, which is the documentary he made with Jack White, and the Edge. He doesn’t perform the song, but this song is among the songs he plays in his home, to demonstrate the songs that influence him. Cool beans, that movie, but a topic for another day.

I love David Lowery, oh my fair Youdopia. He’s the creative voice behind Camper Van Beethoven and Cracker. I found a lovely concert from 1992 on Dime A Dozen, and it made me smile after 16 hours of work. I love Bit Torrent, and I love freely shared live music. This is a radio show from 17 years ago.  I dig it. One of the best songs ever is Euro Trash Girl, which is played in an embryonic form in this show. It wouldn’t appear until Cracker’s next (and imo best) album Kerosene Hat. The video for the song is below. It’s a good one. Coolest Shit Ever? Hell yes.
