Mohamed Babu Shot Some Great Photos

These images are all over teh interwebs, because they’re so awesome. Photographer Mohamed Babu, of Solent News, created this tableaux of chromatic brilliance, after his wife noticed that, after drinking milk, household ants would turn white.

Babu then set up these colored drops of sugar water, and photographed the behavior of the ants. They favored lighter colors, only choosing the darker tones when the lighter ones were full. Since their thorax is transparent, the ants would “become” the color they consumed. That makes it the Coolest Thing Ever.

That's no space station. That's a TIE fighter.

I loved them pictures what come from space. This pic was taken within the .86 second transit of the International Space Station across the face of our sun. You earthlings call it Sol. Click the pic to see the work of the great photographer who took this image. Peep.

I think I’m in love with a gas giant, Youdopia. I know I keep posting pics of space, and Enceladus, but I’m constantly amazed at the beauty. The Cassini probe just keeps taking amazing images. It’s so cool that we have little robots out there, sending information about our celestial neighbors. I think it’s the Coolest Shit Ever.

Sergey Larenkov is a Russian photographer who has taken photographs of Berlin, Prague, and Vienna, from the end of World War Two, and blended them seamlessly with pictures of the same places today. They’re brilliant, Youdopia.

Artistically, it’s a brilliant idea, and it turns out that the effects are a bit haunting. I see in them a reminder of the impermanence that is the nature of being, as well as an exemplar of the axiom, This too shall pass. There are dozens of images on Larenkov’s Live Journal page. Take a look. I hope you find them as neat as I do. They’re the Coolest Shit Ever, if only for the power of the images, and juxtaposition of war and peace. Since we’re seemingly careening toward World War Three, they have an extra oomph to me. Thanks to Laughing Squid for turning me on to this.

Happy Friday, Youdopia. Viernes es el dia méjor. This photo has quite a provenance. Daily Grail found it on Kottke.org. He, in turn, found it via clusterflock, who in turn referenced the original slideshow from Life Magazine’s site.

The story behind this is that a cub photographer from Life went to Princeton when Einstein died, and got into Einstein’s office by giving away bottles of scotch. Smart man. There’s an even better pic of Einstein’s desk in the slideshow, along with pics of the casket being removed from his home, and the cemetery. Coolest Shit Ever.

Happy Birthday, Jimmy Page! Today is a National Holiday in Youdopia. None shall toil. Jimmy is 66 today. You may be surprised that I am a fan of Led Zeppelin, and Jimmy Page. It’s true.  Jimmy has written/compiled a photographic autobiography which is being published by Genesis Publications. They are an exquisitely wonderful publisher. They release super high end, expensive books of superb quality. They cost a ton, but I don’t care. I am getting this book.

Jimmy follows the tradition of Ol’ 93/93 with this hand crafted publication. It’s funny, but the day I found out about this book, I literally had this book in the cart, ready to buy. Coincidence?

The Bleak, Dorky, Clever Lego Photography Of Mike Stimpson

I must be getting old, Youdopians. The younger Mojozoso would definitely think this lego photo recreation of the execution of a Viet Cong prisoner (the famous Eddie Adams photo) was sick and twisted, and kinda funny.  I t generally don’t really w00t that much over lego stuff, or anyone who fucks with a Barbie and calls it art. Sorry. It’s all good, I just don’t dig it. However, the good folks at Wired put together an anthology of lego photo recreations, like the one above, and I wanted to share it with you. The photographer (lego dude) is Mike Stimpson.
