I rarely talk politics, Youdopia, mainly because this blog doesn’t really overlap with politics. Nazis and demons can like Led Zeppelin as much as Saints and Samaritans.  The whole prop 8 thing is ridiculous to me. Gay marriage seems to be an issue that keeps politically active people, on both sides, from expending energy on the carnage that is occurring all over the world. World War 3 may very well be manifesting, but if the politically active folks are all worked up over gay marriage, then… the powers that be can ruin all that is good and pure in the world.

Gay marriage? Why not? If marriage is a civil contract (and as far as government is concerned, it is) then hell yes. It’s a no brainer. You can’t help who you love, and it’s nobody’s business anyway. America is circling the drain, and there are no good guys in charge, and there is no longer a system that will allow good guys.  Why aren’t we killing everyone who is in office? Really? Why aren’t we cutting throats and throwing bombs? No one in power is doing anything, anything, but working as hard as they can to take from you your money and your freedom. For real.

If you’re against gay marriage on moral grounds, then bully for you. You can’t do shit about it politically (ideally. We all know you can) because we’re not (supposed to be) a Christian theocracy.  The image above references the brouhaha that happened when interracial marriage was “allowed”, back in 1967.  That was only six months before I was born. That issue also served as a great deflection from that problem of Vietnam, just as today it deflects from Afghanistan, and Iraq (and Iran and North Korea, and China, and Israel, and Washington).

I actually wanted to simply use that image because the site on which I found it, Bartcop, was kind enough to link to a post of mine, which sent me a ton of traffic. However, I got all worked up.

My dear friends, you may span the political spectrum, from unrealistic repressive liberal, to unrealistic repressive conservative, and the six nanometers in between… but I hope all of Youdopia can acknowledge that Obama is a funny guy.

His routine at the 2010 White House Correspondents Dinner was really funny. A Facebook friend pointed it out yesterday. Political humor isn’t for everyone, but I think this qualifies as Funniest Shit Ever.

Holy shit, youdopia. This isn’t much, really. But it is a nice piece of how they do it elsewhere. Gordon Brown got schooled by an MP, in the manner in which Britain does it. I wish we were a little more like that, but alas…. they’re all monsters, whore, goblins, or simply idiots… a few exceptions aside.

You know what, Youdopia? I like Joe Biden. I like it that his candor and abruptness allow him to remain nominally human in the center of Dis. The other day, an open mic caught Vice President Biden, when called “Mr Vice President” by a colleague, replying, “Give me a fucking break!”. Funny. I like that guy. The guy before him was 100% demon, let’s not forget. I’d rather have a Trumanesque everyman with integrity and chronic foot in mouth, than just another fucking lawyer. Craziest shit ever? Maybe.

You can’t hear it well, it’s like listening to EVP’s on Paranormal State.

Well, Youdopia… Jon Stewart took Cramer to the cleaners on the Daily Show last night. In one sense it was amazingly wonderful, but in another sense it is the start of Jon Stewart, politician, and I worry about the Frankenization of a very funny guy. He’s obviously fired up, and goddamnit he won, and he’s right. However, how can he go back to being a funny guy with a great show… he’s now part of the battle. Within ten years I see a senate run, and hubris.

Until then, enjoy the ride. He’s the only one calling bullshit right to the bullshitter’s faces.  This is the coolest shit ever, for real. Bravo, senor Stewart. Remember thou art mortal.

Poor boys and pilgrims with families, and we’re all going to Graceland.

I knew Obama was going to win when his grandma died the night before the election. That’s mythic. When you’re dealing with something this big, you expect mythic actions. President-Elect Obama has the dubious distinction of being an Archetype.  That’s good and bad. On one hand, he’s a virtual demigod, and his name already will live forever. How many children were created on Election night, and how many will be named Barack? Time will tell. That’s the upside.

The downside is that Mr Obama can never live up to the hype. Of course, the last young, vibrant couple who took over the White House and shook things up were the Kennedys.  The Clintons… wolves in sheep’s clothing there. That’s a belabored point, but a valid one. It’s not easy being a manifestation of the Zeitgeist. When the spirit leaves him, he’ll just be a man (Father, Father, why have you forsaken me?), and the collective doesn’t really want a man. The Sun smiled upon George W once, remember? (twice if we’re talking elections) Now he’ll be lucky to get a job in the Garden Center at the Crawford Wal-Mart.
